Sangeet anchor in Mumbai

The sangeet is the most performance-packed night of an Indian wedding. Palak Shah — a trained performer and trilingual anchor — hosts it like a show: introducing every family act, filling the gaps between them, keeping the running order on track and keeping both families with her from the first performance to the last.

What does a sangeet anchor do?

A sangeet anchor runs the show. That means introducing each performance and the people in it — the bride’s cousins, the groom’s college friends, the parents’ surprise act — and covering the transitions while the next group gets into place and the DJ cues the next track.

It also means watching the clock and the room: tightening the order when the evening runs late, lifting the energy when it dips, and making sure every family member who rehearsed for weeks gets their moment.

A sangeet anchor is not the DJ

The DJ plays the music; the anchor holds the stage — introductions, timing, speeches and the audience. The two work from the same running order, which is why Palak coordinates with your AV team before the night.

Why a performer on the microphone helps

Palak is a trained performer with genuine humour and a quick read of the crowd. Hosting in Hindi, English and Gujarati, she can speak to every side of the family in the language they love — and every script is written for your families, so the jokes are about you, not borrowed.

The sangeet is often one of several functions; see wedding anchoring for hosting the Haldi, Mehndi, ceremony and reception too.

Before you enquire

Planning your sangeet running order with the anchor

Share what you know — even in draft. It all goes into the script.

  1. 01 List every performance in order, with the performers’ names and how they are related to the couple
  2. 02 Mark which acts are surprises, so they are introduced without giving them away
  3. 03 Note the speeches, toasts or video tributes and where they fall
  4. 04 Share the couple’s entry and any special moments you want built up
  5. 05 If you want games or audience interaction between performances, say so, so they can be scripted in
  6. 06 Agree a hard finish time with the venue, so the order can flex around it

Questions, answered

Before you book.

Is a sangeet anchor different from a DJ?
Yes. The DJ plays the music; the anchor runs the show — introductions, transitions, timing and the audience. The two work together on cues.
Can Palak host our sangeet in Hindi or Gujarati?
Yes. She hosts in Hindi, English and Gujarati, so both families can follow every introduction.
Can she host the rest of our wedding functions too?
Yes. Haldi, Mehndi, the wedding ceremony and the reception are also events she hosts. Mention every function and date in your enquiry.
